You don’t have to be everything to everyone

I remember when I was younger I wanted everyone to like me, I wanted everyone to pick me when it was time to play games. I didn’t realize in that moment that I was trying to be everything to everybody. I was trying to people please. Little did I know that it would carry into my adulthood. This need to try and show up a certain way, the need to try to get it all right, the need to be this PERFECT person.

It was as I got older I realized that it wasn’t a such thing. I was drowning myself out to help others feel lifted. I realized that I was imperfectly perfect and that I didn’t have to be everything to everyone. I didn’t have to always get it right, I didn’t have to show up a certain way. I realized that showing up was MORE THAN ENOUGH!

I realized that it is okay to say you’re not okay, it’s okay to let people know that you have a lot going on and it’s up to them of whether or not they want to lend a helping hand or simply cast judgement on your flaws.

However, that is a Samaskara or perception you don’t have to take on. The practice of yoga specifically the Yoga sutras teaches us to be in Svadhyaya, self study of what we are holding on to that is causing you to not feel liberated. Whether it’s thoughts, emotions, or other perceptions, the sutras remind us that we don’t have to make that into our reality.

True liberation happens when we realize each and every day that we are here on this earth simply as human beings having a human experience. We don’t have to be everything to everyone, we don’t have to attach to our circumstances, we don’t have to be our circumstances.

So as you go throughout this week know that it’s okay to not do all the things, it’s okay to say  NO, it’s okay to say you know what I am doing best that I can and that is enough.

Honor where you are, honor how far you have come and don’t allow the projections, subjections and thoughts to tell you otherwise. YOU ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH!
